The United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has commenced its collection of 2024 EEO-1 Component 1 data, effective immediately through Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Please note that this is a relatively short filing period, so it is essential that you take action now. The agency has stated that it will not provide a “failure to file” period as in previous years. Employers should not expect an extension.
You can familiarize yourself with the EEO-1 Component 1 report and process by reviewing the 2024 instruction booklet found here.
What Is EEO-1 Component 1 Data?
This report requires that organizations collect workforce demographic data by job category, sex, race or ethnicity.
Please refer to www.eeocdata.org/eeo1 for archived material and updates to the 2024 EEO-1 Component 1 process as they become available.
For the purposes of the report, employers must select a snapshot pay period between October 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024, that includes both full-time and part-time employees
Who Must Collect and File the Data?
All private sector employers with 100 or more employees, and federal contractors with 50 or more employees, have a mandatory legal obligation to submit and certify annual EEO-1 Component 1 report(s). Filers will be asked to indicate their federal contractor status at the time of filing.
Employers meeting the filing criteria must submit the data electronically through an electronic web-based submission system referred to as the EEO-1 Component 1 Online Filing System (OFS), which is accessible at www.eeocdata.org/eeo1. No paper or non-OFS electronic filing will be accepted.
What Is New Since Last Year?
Changes to the 2024 filing process are minimal.
- This year, only binary gender options (male or female) are to be reported. The non-binary category has been removed, in alignment with Executive Order 14168.
- There will be no extended filing period beyond June 24, even though this has been the practice in prior years.
Conclusion
If you haven’t already done so, it is highly recommended that you immediately begin data collection in order to comply with the short filing period. You must submit your filing by the June 24 deadline, as there will not be an extended window this year.
